Benefits of a dental crown
What Does The Treatment Involve?
What Our Patients Say
What Is A Dental Crown?
Dental crowns are used to protect teeth, in instances when they have been cracked or fractured, badly decayed, or even damaged from trauma.
A dental crown is usually made from porcelain, is extremely strong and gives a natural tooth appearance.
Once placed it will protect the tooth from further decay and damage.
Dental crowns can last you years providing you show them the same level of care you would your own teeth.
It is advised that good hygiene is maintained at home, and regular dental and hygiene appointments are made in order to ensure the longevity of the crowns.

When is a dental crown used?
A dental crown is used to restore chipped or broken teeth.
A dental crown can be used when:
A titanium dental implant is placed and a crown is needed to complete the treatment
After root canal treatment to protect the tooth
A tooth is badly decayed and there is not enough tooth structure present
The tooth has worn away and needs protecting
A large filling is present and needs strengthening

Dental crown procedure at Reading Smiles
The process of a dental crown, usually needs at least two visits. After your initial consultation, your dentist will need to prepare your tooth for the crown.
First the tooth is cleaned and re-shaped. Then an impression or mould is taken of your tooth so that our laboratory can custom build your crown. You may be fitted with a temporary crown whilst your crown is being built.
Your final visit will see the removal of the temporary crown and your new crown being fixed into place.
Many patients often ask, “how long do crowns last?” There is no reason why dental crowns cannot last for years providing you take good care and practice good hygiene of your crown as you would do with your other teeth.
